Ant-Proof Feeding Bowls

In case you didn’t know, ants love cat food!!

So here is a cheap and effective way to outsmart them:

At your local hardware store or plant nursery, purchase a 10-inch plant tray.

They come in several colors and we have found that green is normally the most discrete color.

Next, purchase a cheap dish that will fit in the center circle of the plant tray.  You should use a ceramic or glass dish – plastic will float as the food level goes down.

Fill the plant tray about half full with water.  Place the dish firmly in the center groove so that it won’t slide to an edge.  Fill the dish with cat food.

Ants are unable to cross the water moat.  We placed a tray and dish similar to the one shown above next to an ants’ nest and not a single ant was able to access the food.

A 12-inch tray and larger bowl can also be used, but make sure that the bowl fits snugly inside the inner circle of the plant tray.
