CARE Feline Rescue, Inc.

CARE Feline Rescue, Inc. is an all volunteer nonprofit corporation.  The organization was founded in the fall of 1995.  Our goal is to reduce the number of feral and stray cats impounded and euthanized by Orange County Animal Services (OCAS) each year.  To achieve that end we coordinate a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program that utilizes both the citizens in our community and Orange County’s low cost spay and neuter clinic.  Since the inception of the program, over 10,000 cats have been spayed or neutered, and received inoculations.

With our program, in most cases, the caretakers trap the cats they are feeding, take them to Orange County Animal Services’ clinic for surgery and shots on their designated appointment date, and then pick them up and bring them back.  Under special circumstances and when possible, where the caretakers are not able or willing to trap and transport the cats, other volunteers may attempt to make arrangements for trapping and transporting.  There is no charge for the use of the traps, the transportation, surgery or shots.  We expect the caretakers to continue feeding the cats and suggest that homes be found for the friendly cats and for the kittens when at all possible.  We do not shelter the cats, or coordinate an adoption.

Our program is sanctioned by Orange County Animal Services.  We receive referrals from them, as well as from the local SPCA, several area veterinary clinics and by word of mouth.  Obviously, with the number of cats that have gone through the program, we have been successful in addressing the problem.
