Cat Coalition of Florida

The Cat Coalition of Florida is a group of Trap/Neuter/Return (TNR) organizations and individuals who came together in early 2003 in response to the proposed Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) Feral Cat Policy.

Despite 2 hours of testimony from over 100 credible speakers opposing the policy and only 3 supporting it, the policy passed in May 2003 with less than 5 minutes of discussion from the commission. However, thanks to the tremendous public outcry from Florida citizens and groups as far away as Washington D.C., the wording of the policy was changed and the reference to TNR being ineffective was omitted.

During the summer of 2003, the coalition became more formally organized and a steering committee was appointed. A mission statement was developed and a formal membership list created.

The coalition continues to work toward a day when public and private agencies recognize TNR as the most effective and humane way to reduce the feral cat population.
