Using the Drop-Trap
The following tips should enable you to maximize the effectiveness of your drop trap. While this describes a particular type of trap, the information can be applied to other types of traps.
Veterinarians require you to stop giving food to your cats by about 10pm the night before being altered. So it’s a good idea that all food is removed from the trap after the cat is caught. The pictures show how to place the food in the trap and how you can easily remove the food once the cat has been caught. What’s more, the food can be used for other cats as long as it’s not infested with ants. On that subject, if ants are a problem, you can increase the amount of newspaper under the trap so that a larger ground area is covered. This won’t stop the ants, but should increase the amount of time that the food remains ant-free.
If you place extra food in the trap, you will be able to allow several cats into the trap to feed before catching your specific cat. You should try to get the females first before trapping males. You might also be able to catch more than one cat at a time, especially if they are kittens.
We recommend putting a pile of dry food at the back of the trap with some smelly canned food smeared on top (preferable fish-type). Dry food will fall through the floor of the trap better than canned food.

1. Place some newspaper under the back 2. Place some newspaper inside the trap, but
of the trap. do not cover rear of trap.

3. Put food at back of trap beyond paper that 4. Cat’s eye view! Very tempting!
is inside the trap. You can put a trail of canned
food from the front of the trap towards the
main pile of food, but only use small amounts

5. Once the cat has been trapped, you can
lift the trap (gentle shaking) and allow the
remaining food to fall through to the paper
